For this layered painting technique, I did not smooth out my paint with water or with sandpaper. Once you add your wax layer and let it dry you can then burnish or buff the wax.

I do this by applying a light mist over my whole piece which mimics the tonal change I will get when I apply the wax. Your piece will not end up this dark but the water will give you a sneak peep into the blend that you have created. This layer will mostly be hidden when we are all done but that does not mean it's not an important layer. For this client, we are creating a bold but still rustic and somewhat distressed paint finish. Their clean, timeless, and classic style is also reflected in their store located in the heart of Manhattan Beach. Mist (don’t spray) your painted furniture and then put very little paint on your brush. While I was in college, I began making and selling my hand-made designs at weekend craft sales.
Use a glue that dries clear, my favorite is Aleene’s tacky glue, it will take several days to dry but it’s non toxic and very strong. I didn’t use an epoxy mainly because it’s has a slight foggy look when it dries and I wanted to avoid fumes. I’ve used this glue to make a 12 foot by 8 foot seashell mirror for Extreme Makeover on ABC. I have to say, I love the introverted side of me as much as the crazy girl. I’m a book worm, and my favorite thing to do is spend quiet hours working away and pondering life. Most of the time I’m hiding in my office editing or out in the studio painting. But whether I’m working alone or in front of the camera, my focus is to inspire you to create and take action on your dream(s) whatever they may be.
